    No More ANWR Discussion

    June 18th, 2008

Ok boys, we get it, the blog gets it, ANWR is something that you like to argue about. I e-mailed Professor Andrew Light of University of Washington (a philosophy professor and well regarded/published environmentalist) and asked him about the ANWR argument. Now don’t take this as me one-upping anyone, I just find that american mainstream journalism in general is difficult to accept and I would rather get facts from someone who has studied the field for some time. Here is what he sent back:

“According to USGS (U.S. Geological survey) estimated ANWR 1002 area (where we would be drilling) has reserves between 5.7 billion barrels (95% chance) and 16.0 billion barrels (5% chance). On average most consider ANWR to have a reserve of around 10.3 billion barrels. If this is the case:
    • It will take between 7 and 12 years from approval of drilling to actually producing oil.
    • Over the following 20 years production of oil will increase to a maximum of 1.4 billion barrels per day.
    • At that point (27 to 32 years after the initial drilling approval) production will decrease over the next 20 years to 0.2 million barrels per day.
Considering these facts it will take 27 to 32 years for ANWR to provide 5% of our CURRENT oil demand. Thats not taking into account the fact that U.S. oil demand will only go up if no reasonable alternative energy sources are discovered.”
I don’t understand why people flip out about ANWR when the production it could provide is so friggin menial. This just follows the happy tradition that we have dealt with for the past 8 years….bad scientific evidence = a good Bush agenda.

    Consequence

    June 18th, 2008

Made it to Queens for the first time and heard an absolute SLAPPER coming out of a car on the street…I have noticed some signs for Consequence while I’ve been in NYC. He’s an artist who was featured on A Tribe Called Quest in the 90s, Kanye’s College Dropout and released his first album last year: Don’t Quit Your Day Job! solid sound a little similar to Kanye. This was the song I heard on the street he absolutely kills the third verse:

Maybe I am just ignorant to the NYC hip hop game…let me know what you think!

Organized Konfusion – Stress: The Extinction Agenda

    June 18th, 2008

So….I decided to just start posting albums as well as individual songs. Today, I will post an album by the duo Organized Konfusion (comprised of Pharoahe Monch and Prince Po). Pharoahe has always been a favorite of mine because of his delivery and flow, but it was not until I discovered this album that I fully appreciated his talents. The album is a classic and is widely accepted as one of the best hip hop albums of all time. From the nostalgic track “Why” to the up beat “3-2-1″, this album exhibits a wide range of production, styles and emotions (both joyous and depressing). The album is mostly produced by Organized Konfusion and was released in 1994 (probably the best year for hip hop). The album art is nice and I guess the artist committed suicide after the album was released.

Main Source – Lookin’ At the Front Door

    June 18th, 2008

Classic cut off of an overlooked album. Breaking Atoms should always be mentioned when best hip hop albums come up, but it seems only true heads will bring up this album in discussions. Anyway, Large Professor’s production is top notch on this album and he is easily a top 10 and most likely top 5 for me. The album was recorded in 1991 and Nas makes his first appearance on the track “Live At the Barbecue”. I will post a link to the song, but I will also up the album for anyone who wants to d/l it (recommended if you have never listened).
