I put on for my city!
As many of you already know, earlier this summer Kanye West had a catastrophe of a performance at the Bonaroo Music Festival. He was booed by concert goers and wrote an enraged entry on his own blog. This year at Lollapalooza Kanye headlined the final day of the famous three day Chicago festival. His performance was without a doubt one of, if not the single best live performance i have witnessed from any musician. Kanye is a showman. He seamlessly leaps from one song to the next, incorporating live instruments, vocals, samples, beats and voice modulation technology to create a mesmerizing experience for the concert-goer.
Kanye may not have done his best earlier this year, but he surely made up for it last weekend: When he performed his own rendition of “I Put on for my City,” when he shed a tear speaking about his mother, and when he performed a bone chilling version of “Stronger” that was complemented by a psychedelic light show that rivaled Disco Biscuit quality, he showed the his home town what he is capable of. As a hip hop fan, and a someone who has followed Kanye’s entire career it is safe to say that Mr. West is at his pinnacle.
