Ludacris Says he’s Going to Retire, Don’t Bet On It
One of the first rappers I listened to as a young teenager was Ludacris and I fell in love with the southern slang. He has had a remarkable career and forged a path for Atlanta rappers to follow. I bet he will put out at least 3 more albums because of his energy and ties to to the rap industry. Rappers are notorious for saying their going to retire only to return a couple of years after they say it. It’s the same with star athletes, they are in the spotlight for so long that when they retire they miss all the attention and adoration they received in their primes. Lance Armstrong, Brett Favre, Jay-Z, Michael Jordan, Nas are just a few examples of this trend.
Rappers retiring are nothing new to the industry. From Too Short and Master P to Jay-Z and The Game, rappers have been threatening to retire for years.
Now, Ludacris is joining the ranks of those ready to hang up the mic for greener pastures.
After five albums, three Grammy wins and a couple of number one spots, Ludacris says he’s preparing to leaving rap alone to focus full time on his budding acting career.
“I can see a point where acting is my full-time job, really,” he tells the Los Angeles Times.
Even though Luda doesn’t want to be in front of the mic forever, music will always be in his blood adding: “I will always be involved in music, but it may be more behind the scenes, as a producer, I will always do that.
“But when I look at 10 years from now, I don’t think rapping is necessarily what I want to do when I’m in my 40s.”
Ludacris will release his sixth album, Theater of the Mind this year. The album will feature collaborations with Good Charlotte, The Game, Lil Wayne and T.I.
