The devastation from Ike went all the way up through Texas and Houston was one of the cities that caught it’s wrath. Away from the gulf coastline, Houston is far enough away from the ocean that hurricanes usually lose a lot of their wind before reaching it. Ike was a devastating storm that maintained its winds speeds into the heart of the country. Global warming?
The City of Houston is struggling to get back on its feet after Hurricane Ike devastated the metropolis last week. Grammy Award winner Chamillionaire was one of the city’s evacuated residents although, according to reports, 40 percent of the city’s residents ignored warnings to leave.
Chamillionaire told Allhiphop.com, “I honestly didn’t expect the storm to have as big an impact on Houston as it did. The storm lifted trees from the roots at my house and knocked down a fence at my car shop but that’s nothing compared to some of the disaster the storm caused for others. I feel blessed to have the means to get out of the city to seek refuge in surrounding cities but feel pity for all the people that are still sitting in the dark with no power. I really hope they can get all the power in the city restored sooner than the two week recovery time they are estimating.”
Rapper Paul Wall is one of the two million people who still doesn’t have power. He said, “I haven’t had any power since Friday (September 12th). There’s 13 people at my house because of all the flooding. But by God’s grace there’s no major damage to my house, and most importantly we’re all safe. I never thought a hurricane would come this far north. This is the time for family and friends to stick together and for us to be kind to strangers and look out for our neighbors. Really this is all a walk in the park compared to Katrina so I can’t complain. I know my fellow Texans out there are going through far worse than me and I wish there was something we could do to help out.”
The late Pimp C’s wife, Chinara Butler, and their six-year-old daughter Christian, just barely escaped the storm’s wrath. Butler was just in state of shock at the devastation. She said, “One day you’re here, and the next day you’re gone.”
