Yo Hiptics! Portland Oregon’s Hip-Hop Scene
September 19th, 2008About a month ago we posted about Mos Def coming to Portland for a concert. Mos Def’s appearance was undoubtedly helpful to Portland’s hip-hop scene. None the less, no one who writes for Hiptics can say they know much about Portland hip-hop. Thankfully we have the type of readers who don’t mind giving us some positive feedback, and in this case giving us the heads up about their city’s hip-hop scene. This is what Weston from Portland had to say:
Yo Hiptics!,
Read your entry about Mos Def and Portland’s nearly non-existent hip hop scene. I thought this might be relevant for you and your Portland readers.
I’ve been working with The Artistery (a small venue in SE Portland) and we’ve started slowly adding some cool hip hop shows. We have one coming up that I’m excited about; I figured I’d send it to you and see if it interested you at all.
It’s Speak and Pheo from a small, homemade label in southern California called Applebird Records, supporting locals Gepetto and Bryce Panic. Here are some links:
