Banks is still hungry. I recently wrote a review of Lloyd Banks latest mixtape Return of the PLK. The mixtape is part of Banks and Whoo Kidd’s new mixtape series called 5 And Better. Does Banks make your Top 5?
“Athletes don’t ball better
Top 5 – yea I said
My life’s the shit
All I hear is credit or debit”
Well he doesn’t make my Top 5, but he makes my Top 10. I think if Banks continues to consistently release music at the level of Return of the PLK then I will have no choice but to move him up a few spots. Banks is young by industry standards (he’s 26) and already veteran. He’s ready! I expect big things from Banks in the next year.
Today I was listening to one of G-Unit’s pre-Shady/Aftermath mixtapes called 50 Cent is the Future. It’s a classic. Banks first verse on “G-Unit Soldiers” is nasty. Check it out:
“I’m from the hood where drop-outs bangin for the feeling
From houses with TVs hangin from the ceiling
We gamble on ball courts, keep the paint peeling
You either play ball or rap if you ain’t dealing
I’m stuck in the past – shit changed since the 80s
I know ladies that got babies with babies
Out here it’s basketball and speed bags
And guns that’ll stiffin you up like freeze tag”
Banks was only 19 or 20 when he dropped that verse. He vividly details his environment like Biggie did on “Things Done Changed”. I still think Biggie is the best rapper ever and Banks would probably agree:
“It’s the protege of 50
Inspired by Biggie
Smoke more than Ziggy”
Word up.
One more thing — do you like the new site design?

BANKS IS FOR SURE TOP 10, AND LIKE YOU SAID TOP 5 IF HE CONTINUES RELEASING THIS FIRE.
