Dan from Brooklyn Radio sent me this link. Busta was @ the Knitting Factory which is a great place to check out a show when in New York City. I’ve got some footage from the Knitting Factory on HipticsTV.
On the night of his baby’s birthday, Busta Rhymes took the stage at New York City’s Knitting Factory to throw some excitement into the frigid city air. Special Guests Pac Div opened the show with their honest raps and crowd-participation enticing stage antics. The West Coast trio, consisting of brothers Mibbs, Like, and Beyoung, may be hardest working group of young men to emerge from the Kill Cali in some time. Though it took a bit for the audience to warm up to the group’s women drama, fun loving, Cali spirited rhymes, by the end of their twenty-minute set, they had the a crew of fans onstage to rock their hit “Mayor”.

After almost another two and half hour wait, Trevor Smith aka Busta Rhymes, and his long-time hype man and comrade Spliff Starr, casually strolled into sight from the tiny backstage area at the legendary venue. Busta was complete with a Barney- purple smoking jacket and Cohiba in hand. Spliff wasted no time getting the crowd jumping as the riot inducing sounds of MOP’s smash “Ante Up” pumped through the sound system. The sheer electricity from Busta’s aura alone was enough to keep the crowd moving throughout his relatively short set. He cut many of his classics short, like “Break Yo Neck” and “Fire It Up,” but we couldn’t forget it was his baby’s birthday, as he mentioned several times.
The highlight of the night came when Q-Tip joined his big homie on stage, and I only mean that literally. With a walk through Memory Lane, the two effortlessly killed A Tribe Called Quest Classic “Scenario,” Q-Tip ’s cousin and Tribe familia Consquence also came onstage to strut his stuff, adding some different flavor to the set. The Abstract treated concert goers to a few more jams before he made his exit, which included his latest single “Getting’ Up” from his latest disc The Renaissance.
Though it wasn’t his most spectacular show, Busta Rhymes is still one of the most energetic and crowd moving performers in hip-hop. He also might be the only person making “Arab Money” in America’s current tough economic state.
