Plies Da REAList Album Review: A Different Perspective

    December 15th, 2008
    Passionate Plies

    Passionate Plies

The first Plies review made a unique comparison between Plies and Juvenile; the album reviewer ranked Da REAList 4/5. This review is not so complimentary and notes that Plies’ obsession with pleasing his core fan base is limiting his artistic growth. Make sure to check out what this review has to say about Plies latest political banger “Second Chance.”

Rule number one for any creative person is to know your audience. Few rappers have figured this out as quickly as Slip N’ Side recording artist Plies [click to read]. Though the Florida native came up as a self-described goon, he has focused much of his energy on pleasing his women fans. From The Real Testament’s street love anthem “Shawty” to Definition of Real’s [click to read] “Bust It Baby Pt. 2,” Plies has given the fairer sex just as much attention as he gave killers and dope dealers.

    Common Universal Mind Control Review

    December 15th, 2008
    It's all Common Sense

    It's all Common Sense

The Universal Mind Control album review is below. Check out what Common had to say about Obama and hip-hop:

Obama “is going to change hip-hop for the better,” predicted the rapper, whose eighth album, “Universal Mind Control” (G.O.O.D. Music/Geffen), hits shelves Tuesday.

“I really do believe we as hip-hop artists pick up what’s going on in the world and try to reflect that,” he told CNN, outlining his belief that mainstream as well as so-called “conscious” rappers — the more socially aware — will pick up on what he sees as the more optimistic prospects of an Obama presidency.

“I think hip-hop artists will have no choice but to talk about different things and more positive things, and try to bring a brighter side to that because, even before Barack, I think people had been tired of hearing the same thing,” he said.

I actually went to Best Buy and bought Be and Finding Forever. Anyone plan on buying Common’s new album Universal Mind Control?

The emcee formerly known as Common Sense has always made his own lane; rarely, if ever has he followed others’ examples as a blueprint for how his music should be made. So it should come as no surprise that after two Kanye West-helmed albums Be and Finding Forever, Com has once again swerved into left field to try something new.

America is Cool Again in Europe Thanks to Obama

    December 15th, 2008
    Play it cool, America.

    Play it cool, America.

I subsrcribe to TechCrunch’s daily e-mail updates because I’m a nerd like that. Hiptics has e-mail updates, too. Just saying.

I skimmed through an article by Michael Arrington about his experience in Paris at the Le Web Conference. He made some comments about the post-Bush perception of America that I could relate to as an American currently living in Europe. (I’ll be in Atlanta on Thursday, though!)

As an American I found that I was treated more warmly than any time I’ve visited Europe in the last few years. Obama is on deck, and the Euros like him. America is cool again.
