MTV Top 28 Commercial Hip-Hop Songs 2008

Yo! MTV Fell Off
I originally found MTV’s list of the top 28 commercial hip-hop songs ofull list at RapUp. I made note of the more questionable selections.
1. Lil Wayne – “A Milli”
The beat sounds like something a mentally challenged person would make with an MPC. Cool lyrics by Wayne, but not the #1 song of the year.
3. Shawty Lo – “Dunn Dunn”
Shawty Lo for the #3 song of the year? Sorry, but “Dunn Dunn” was a bad T.I. diss that did nothing to stop Tip’s momentum in Atlanta or elsewhere. Who made the beat, though? It’s pretty ill.
4. M.I.A. – “Paper Planes”
Did this song blow up since I’ve been in Amsterdam?
5. Fat Joe (featuring J. Holiday) – “I Won’t Tell”
Fat Joe should call J. Holiday and say, “thanks.”
14. David Banner (featuring Chris Brown and Young Joc) – “Get Like Me”
Probabaly one of the worst commerical singles of the year. You know it’s bad when the chorus is a Young Joc sample. Did Chevy get a check?
17. Rick Ross (featuring Nelly) – “Here I Am”
Rick Ross is no longer relevant. His portrays himself as a former kingpin, but actually used to put handcuffs on criminals for a living. Oh yea, and this song sucks despite an amazing cameo by Nelly…oh wait.
25. Lil Wayne (featuring Bobby Valentino) – “Mrs. Officer”
This was one of my least favorite songs on Tha Carter 3.
27. Ron Browz and Jim Jones (featuring Juelz Santana) – “Pop Champagne”
I’m not really feeling Jones on this. Chamillionaire killed the beat on Mixtape Messiah 5, though.
28. Busta Rhymes (featuring Ron Browz) – “Arab Money”
I respect Busta Rhymes as an emcee, but I think this song is trash.
