Kanye West: An Unintelligent Musical Genius

    January 13th, 2009

    2006 Cover

THESIS: Kanye West is a musical genius, but about as smart as my keyboard.

I never noticed this until recently: On Late Registration, Kanye raps the following lyrics →

“And I know the government administered AIDS” – Kanye (“Heard Em Say”)

    Right.

In 2005, the same year Late Registration hit stores, Kanye was presented with the Million Man March Image Award. He said the following about the in his acceptance speech →

“…That’s one of the reasons why I think God let me live. But, there must have been a deal made when He spared my life in an accident. He said at any given moment I’m gonna just use you. I’m gonna speak through you at any given moment…”

    More

God must have been speaking through him when Mr. West felt comfortable posing as Jesus Christ on the cover of Rolling Stone in 2006. Hmmm…I thought Jesus was a humble man?

Can someone give me a reason why I should care what Kanye says from this point on? I like the music, but I’m starting to think he’s an idiot.

    Before there was AutoTune...

I logged into my Twitter and saw that em2wice (who is also a Hiptics reader) posted a phenomenal link. It’s worth a read, and has plenty of videos to keep you entertained.

In the history of 20th century pop music, the Talkbox was arguably the most popular source of the robot voice. Used sparingly by Stevie Wonder, frequently by Peter Frampton and ubiquitously by Roger Troutman, some of the greatest artists of the 70s and 80s were quite involved with the Talkbox. Roger Troutman, a Funk/R&B artist who acheived fame as the frontman of the band Zapp, championed the Talkbox with a string of hits from “More Bounce to the Ounce” to the memorable chorus of Tupac Shakur’s “California Love”.
