I had the chance to speak with Mistah F.A.B. about his hit song “Hit Me On Twitter” and his future plans. If you haven’t heard it yet, click here to download “Hit Me On Twitter” for free. Check out what F.A.B. told Hiptics:
Hiptics.com: When did the idea come about to make a song about Twitter?
Mistah F.A.B: I’ve been knowing about the whole Twitter thing for a couple years. The whole thing about Twitter is some of the homeys have been on it for a minute, cause all of these things are invented here in the Bay Area, where I’m at, in the heart of Silicon valley. We get a chance to not necessarily cheat, but we get it first. So some of the homeys have been already on it for a minute like, ‘Yo you need to get on Twitter.’ For a long time I was like ‘there’s nothing better than MySpace, I don’t care what any of y’all say.’ When I finally got on it, I was like, ‘Yo this is addictive.’ If it’s addictive to me, it’s addictive to other people. It’s one of those things, I would say trendy cause that’s the formal word for it, but it’s a fun thing, man. It’s for kids and adults, and anytime you have a situation like that, people are going to love it. You just think of a song for it and have fun about it because not only you, but a lot other people can relate evidently [or] people wouldn’t be on it.
Hiptics.com: I know you’ve been spreading the song on Twitter and getting it out to a huge audience that way. What radio markets has the song gotten out to?
Mistah F.A.B: It’s been on [Los Angeles] Power 106, which is the the #2 market, and actually one of the most influential markets in the world. DJ Felli Fel who is a Heavy Hitter DJ, who is one of the most powerful DJ’s — as far as when I say powerful I mean has the most influence to what other smaller markets play- he’s played it. DJ Greg Street, the most influential DJ in the south, he plays it every day. He’s played it every day this week in Atlanta on V103. DJ Ay Bay Bay in Dallas [has played it]. Clinton Sparks, who’s on the E! Channel, Entertainment Tonight, who’s like the biggest party DJ in the world, he loves it. It’s one of his favorite songs. We haven’t pressed up one hard copy of this song yet. So to have these powerful DJ’s [...] who are not only influential in their own markets, but who have the power of influence around the world and on other DJs, to have them spinning it is miraculous! It goes to show the power of networking.
Hiptics.com: Are you going to film a video for “Hit Me On Twitter?”
Mistah F.A.B: We’re actually shooting the video at the TWTRCON next week. The TWTRCON is the event for all the tech junkies. All the people who are the inventors of it, Jack Ramsey, Biz, and those guys they’re having the Twitter-Thon where people from all over the world come network. So we’re going to get some footage up there for the video. The same people are shooting the video [who directed the "Ghost Ride It" video], and those guys are amazing when it comes to camera work. They’re shooting the video. It should be good. I’m anticipating it.
Hiptics.com: What’s can we look forward to from you in the future?
Mistah F.A.B: I’m working on my album, which is called The Bus Ride. The Bus Ride features cats like Travis Barker, T-Pain, [and] DJ Toomp. The album is crazy, it’s really something to anticipate. This is only the beginning. For anybody who is interested or intrigued as to what Mistah F.A.B. is doing, follow me on Twitter.
