MXTAPE DOWNLOAD: Wale – Back To The Feature

01. Wordplay ft. Currensy & Tre – 9th Wonder on the beat. I like what I’m hearing thus far.

02. Cyphr ft. Young Chris, Freeway, & Beanie Sigel – This track embodies hip hop with the spitters going back and forth every 4 bars or so.

03. Chillin ft. Lady Gaga – 9th Wonder remixes Wale’s first single. Did you see the Hiptics footage of Wale performing it? If not, you’re missing out. He raps right into my camera.

04. Tito Santana ft. Joe Budden – Wale and Joe Budden on the same track? Word. Here’s some choice quotables from Wale’s verse:

Around here I am the G.O.A.T. like the Capricorn -Wale

And my brain travels like Yung Berg jewels -Wale

05. 5 Minutes ft. Skyzoo – I’ve got footage of Wale performing with Skyzoo, too. Check it out here. Dope collabo, but what else did you expect?

06. Life’s A Bitch ft. Talib Kweli & Joell Ortiz -

I’m tighter than Michelle Obama’s arms -Talib

07. Night Life ft. Young Chris & Tre – I’ve been bumpin’ this track for a while, but it fits well on Back To The Feature. Young Chris gave me the story behind the song in this exclusive interview.

08. Sweatin Out Weaves ft. UCB – Wale and UCB created one of the most original sounding hip hop songs I’ve heard in a while.

A well know show boat with a cold flow
Get so much cream I could open me a Coldstone -Wale

09. Hot Shyt ft. Peedi Crack, Black Thought, Tu Phace, & Young Chris – Haven’t heard Peedi on a track in a while. I like the concept of this song. This mixtape is really good. Do we get a Twitter mention? Yup.

Name another new nigga with a sicka Twitter following -Wale

10. Wonder Why ft. Big Sean, Ken Starr, & Mike Posner – Another cool track. Mike Posner and Big Sean seem to travel as a pair. I’m feeling like Sean sounds half asleep for his verse, though. Who is Ken Starr? Hilarious name, assuming that he’s referencing the Enron dude.

11. Pot Of Gold ft. Daniel Merriweather - I dig the vibe.

12. Sharp ft. Torae & Kingpin Slim – I really like this beat courtesy of 9th Wonder. Wale talks about this is “traditional hip hop music” at the end of the song and how he’s been a trend-setter in terms of rapping over unconventional beats.

13. Warwick Avenue ft Duffy – A song about a lady who gives Wale the run-around. I like the vibe of this, too.

14. The Sun ft. Memphis Bleek – Wale features Jay’s right-hand-man on one of my favorite Back To The Feature tracks thus far.

The ignorant downgrade me to average
But they don’t even know half of the rapper
So they throw me in the skinny-jeans crew
Cause I rap about shit that the people really do -Wale

15. Rather Be With You ft. J. Cole & Currensy – Fifteen tracks in and I’m starting to get A.D.D. like a Wale tour.

16. Goodbye ft. Jean Grae – The sample used on this song is really ironic considering my comment about #15. I like this, though.

17. Say It Again ft. Royce Da 5′9” - Let’s see if Wale get get through this without Royce murdering him on his own beat. Wale’s dope, but Royce is insane with the 16’s.

“I’m like casteration” -Royce (lol @ that line)

18. Talkin Shyt ft. Bun B & Dre - Bun B on the track going back and forth with Wale. Nuff’ said.

19. Nothing To Worry About ft. Peter, Bjorn, & John – It’s different, but Wale drops a dope verse.

I let the worry and the doubters be the kerosene
And my desire is the fire that’s preparing me
And my clarity is 1080p -Wale

20. Um Ricka ft K’Naan – Wale’s childhood tales x trumpets x impressive K’Naan feature = good track.

21. New Soul ft. Yael Naim – Nice finish with “New Soul”, but after 21 straight tracks I’m ready to call the review a wrap. I’ll add my final thoughts tomorrow after the music digests.

Hiptics.com is updated every single day with your kind of hip hop:

  1. Wale “The Kramer” – Success Or Failure?

  1. Jordan on Friday 19, 2009

This mixtape is very fresh, got the streets buzzin and internet too and tour 70 cities in 5 days…that’s how hard Wale is grindin to put his music out to each state, each city. All i have to say this is one the hottest mixtapes in the summer so far; two more mixtapes should we expect to be hot; Cam’ron & DJ Drama – Boss Of All Bosses & Young Chris – The Network

Wow this was such a good listen! Finally a mixtape I can listen to from beginning to end. I had some favorites but nothing that I hated. I am definitely NOT looking forward to Cam’s mixtape (crime pays was an epic fail no surprise). 50’s next one should be hawt though.

Beats and features are great on this. Not really feelin Wale too much. He’s not bad just doesn’t capture my attention and kinda starts to sound boring after a while. To the reviewer you need to get up on Ken Starr. Check the STARR STATUS joint for proof on how dope he is.

Man, this joint is tight but you need to review the mixtape by Ti’Jean at iAmHipRock.com

He’s also from the DMV but a million times better than Wale. Nothing against Wale, but he’s’ not on Ti’Jean’s level.
