Naledge “Focus” from Okayplayer on Vimeo.
I like what director Noah Banks did with this one. Check out this portion of Hiptics exclusive interview with Naledge where the Chicago emcee talks about his mental state while making his new album Chicago Picasso:
Hiptics.com: I’ll get straight to the point. What can you tell me about the Chicago Picasso and where you were at mentally when you were making that music?
Naledge: I mean, recently I moved back to Chicago so that’s literally where I’m at, theoretically and physically. I’ve had a of time to sit and reflect and digest home for a while and just create with the people I respect. [...]It has inspired me, not only to make a new sound and make newer, fresher material, but also to dig through the older material I already had and kind of freshen it up, and turn it into a really dope project. It’s a mixtape, and that’s the way it’s being titled and billed just because I feel like the budget behind it is that of a mixtape. There’s not going to be a big campaign behind this. There will be no real single released or video or radio play. It’s just dope music that we decided to put out there. And we were intending to put it out there for free until the people at Def Jam were like this material is way to hot to just let go. [Full Interview]
