50 Cent “Forever King” Mixtape Download x Review

UPDATE: Here’s the new Download link.

I’ll be downloading the mixtape as soon as it goes live on ThisIs50 (supposedly at 10pm) and immediately writing a track-by-track review. I did this for War Angel LP and Back To The Feature, and I will be doing it for 50 Cent’s second summer 09′ mixtape, Forever King. Some might even say I’m sacrificing my Friday night for the love of hip hop. Well, I say it’s worth. Stay tuned!

    01. I’m Paranoid – DJ Whoo Kid wasn’t on War Angel LP so there was no interference or adlibs. Well, Whoo Kid shows up on Forever King starting when brings back the very first verse. That’s always a little bit annoying, but 50’s first verse deserve immediately replay.

We thought the coke and the dope would help us escape poverty
When they didn’t work we resorted to arm robbery
Yea I done it but I ain’t the one that did it
Before my first verse my Benz had been kitted

    02. Respect It Or Check It – This is really dope. The beat x 50’s melodies x lyrical content is a serious mixture. This is definitely brand new material; Perez Hilton just got punched.

I blend in with the best of em’ shootaz and the robberz
I’m on that Will.I.Am shit, I’ll black ya eye for bloggin

    03. Suicide Watch – 50 trades bars with the late great Frank White. B.I.G.’s acapella from “Suicidal Thoughts.” This challenge alone can be disastrous for most artists. Afterall it would be pretty tough to sound you belong on a Biggie track. Well 50 sounds right at home on “Suicide Watch.”

    04. Things We DoMr. Jackson adds his vocals  to an R&B instrumental and makes it feel like 1990-something. I don’t know where a lot of these instrumentals were used by first. I was born in 1987 so someone fill me in.

    05. Get The Money - It feels like the 90s on this one, too. That can be bad, but in this case it’s a good thing. Fif is keeps the flow fresh over the instrumental to Horace Brown’s 1996 hit, “One For The Money.”

I’m a Southside nigga you can come through and ask for me
System bumpin’, pumpin’, Tupac blast for me
Cali show me love, but me I’m from the east
    I’m guessin’ I’m bi-coastal when I’m on Dre beats

    06. Funny How Time Flies – Cool song over a 90s beat I don’t recognize. 50’s post-track talking on Forever King is top notch as usual. “I promise you, man. You ain’t never gonna see another nigga like me again, so you should celebrate me now!”

    07. If U Leaving, Then Leave – Another 90s beat that I would recognize if I was a little bit older.  Enjoyable track, but it’s my least favorite thus far.

    08. Dreaming – 50 lets the original vocals ride out for a while on this one. The 25 and up crowd will love Forever King because they’ll recognize the original songs. It’s Fourth of July BBQ music.

09 Michael Jackson Freestyle - This one’s all about the lyrics and goes harder than the previous few tracks. 50 ponders if he’s been away from home (Southside Jamaica, Queens) too long.

    10. London Girl Pt 2 - Didn’t realize we needed a Part 2? 50 tells a Slick Rick type of story that I didn’t really want to hear. For example, “this bitch licked all over my ass crack” and “I told her Lil Kim did it, take it in the butt.”

    11. Touch Me - 50 starts of the track by saying, “this time I’m going to make it clear that I’m number one.” 50 goes hard over bout a woman he wishes he never met. I like this. I’m assuming the Foxy Brown verse is from the original song.

    12. Put That Work In – Remisicing on bad childhood memories, 50 finishes out Forever King on a high-note.
