AFTERTASTE: I really liked Curren$y’s “Fast Times At Ridgemont Fly” mixtape. My homie Jay from Naplanta put me on to most of these Curren$y songs earlier in the summer, but a front-to-back listen of “Fast Times At Ridgemont Fly” introduced new songs to my ears, and made me appreciate others even more. Although it was released in 2008, the beat selection makes “Fast Times At Ridgemont Fly” timeless. Why? Because Curren$y picks diverse, hip hop classics to rap over. Plus, Hot Spitta sounds cool rapping over pretty much anything. Curren$y style is like a combination of Snoop Dogg’s laidback swaggar with Lil Wayne’s syrupy wit. However, I cannot think of a rapper who delivers raps like Curren$y; he’s a breath-of-fresh-air to my ears. It will all make sense when you listen to “Fast Times At Ridgemont Fly.” The download link is after the mixtape artwork.
