CLICK HERE TO BUY KID CUDI’S “MAN ON THE MOON” (FOR CHEAP!)

Aftertaste

As you may or may not know, the following song-by-song album review consists of my initial thoughts after hearing the songs off Kid Cudi’s new album, “Man on the Moon: The End of Day.” I listened to “Man on the Moon” from front-to-back and quickly realized that Kid Cudi’s one of the most creative forces in hip hop. However, I’m not sure if I would even call Cudi’s debut “hip hop.” While  “Man on the Moon” is undoubtedly influenced by hip hop music, Cudi paves his own lane stylistically. I’m looking forward to listening to “Man on the Moon” again. Let me know what you think of Kid Cudi’s debut album! -Cfro

Now for the track-by-track breakdown…

01. In My Dreams (Cudder Anthem)

“In My Dreams” is a great intro. I’m excited to hear the album.

02. Soundtrack To My Life

Wow. This is really good.

03. Simple As…

This beat is dope. I like the chorus. “Man On The Moon” sounds serious thus far.

04. Solo Dolo (nightmare)

It’s a cool song, but it goes on for too long.

05. Heart of a Lion (KiD CuDi Theme Music)

Another creative, mainstream-ish track.

06. My World ft. Billy Cravens

Cudi opens up about his desire to be ‘that’ dude. The beat sounds best on the chorus.

07. Day n Nite

Over-played because it’s a great song.

08. Sky Might Fall

I really like this chorus. Dope track.

09. Enter Galactic (Love Connection Part 1)

Cudi gets melodic over some futuristic/electronic/house/techno beat. It’s a happy song, but it feels a little bit corny to me.

10. Alive (nightmare) ft. RATATAT

Kid Cudi’s collaboration with Ratatat is pretty fresh.

11. CuDi Zone

Another good song. I’m impressed.

12. Make Her Say ft. Kanye West & Common

I think this might be the first time I’ve heard Cudi kinda-rap on “Man on the Moon.”

13. Pursuit of Happiness ft. MGMT & RATATAT

I’m feeling it.

14. Hyyerr ft. Chip The Ripper

I played “Hyyerr” on my radio show. I love the song, but they ripped Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony’s style. Maybe it’s Cudi and Chip’s way of paying homage to their hometown’s heroes. It’s a Cleveland thing.

15. Up Up & Away (The Wake & Bake Song)
I like the song, but this album should not be classified as hip hop. I don’t know what to really call Kid Cudi’s album other than good, quality music.

Cudi may not be “hip-hop” but he is for sure damn good music, who else is collaborating with MGMT and Ratatat on the hip-hop scene (aside from the track Amplive did with Mistah FAB, which was a remix). And fuck whoever disagrees. This man put MY city on the map, Shaker Heights, lol. But yes, some of the notes over looked, but that BTNH homage, is most clear…. Any Bone or Cleveland native, hip-hop fan will make the connection. Solid album, i’m buying six.

    this is a review?

    02. Soundtrack To My Life

    Wow. This is really good.

    13. Pursuit of Happiness ft. MGMT & RATATAT

    I’m feeling it.

    11. CuDi Zone

    Another good song. I’m impressed.

Shouldn’t you be breaking tracks down, any central theme/story to this album? Social comments contained within the lyrics? Production value? Anything at all?

You wrote 3 lines for Hyyver so it’s a start but this just seems lazy

    Kephy,

The track-by-track review, aka the original breakdown, is not intended to dive deep into the music. It’s merely the first thoughts I had when listening to the songs. Please see the “Aftertaste” for deeper thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Cfro
