There’s nothing too special about this video. Money, cash, clothes, and Birdman. I noticed a lot of parallels between this video Bad Boy Records (Diddy x Ma$e x Notorious B.I.G.) “Mo Money Mo Problems.” The camera style in the scenes with Lil Wayne and Birdman, specifically during Lil Wayne’s verse, is identical to the “Mo Money Mo Problems” scenes with Puff Daddy and Mase. Drake is not in any footage with Lil Wayne and Birdman. In “Mo Money Mo Problems” music video, Biggie wasn’t in any scenes with Puff and Mase because it was filmed after his tragic death. Drake’s shots in “Money To Blow” remind me of the “Hypnotize” video. Biggie had injured himself badly in a car accident, and wasn’t able to be as mobile. Drake has a bum knee right now. What do you think of the video?
Founder and Executive Editor of Hiptics. I launched Hiptics in 2008. I spent the last 4 years at Denison University where I hosted a weekly hip-hop radio show on 91.1 WDUB (one of America's Top 20 Most Popular College Radio Stations). I also served as Public Relations Chairman, Program Director, and Webmaster of the station. I genuinely love hip-hop, and have been involved in nearly every aspect of the culture starting with selling my own music in Middle School (haha, true story). I won the Culture Jam Freestyle Battle at Denison both times I participated. I brought Wiz Khalifa, EbGb, and D.Julien to campus for a free Hiptics show in January 2010. I've interviewed everyone from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony to the CEO of Death Row Records. I've DJ'd for Wiz Khalifa and Sam Adams, as well as at countless parties and campus events. There's a lot more to be said, but I don't want to be THAT guy. My point is this: I'm not just another one of these hip-hop bloggers. If the Internet didn't exist, I'd still be in the game.
It was a good video. The camera style during Wayne’s verse was somewhat unimpressive but it still made for a good video overall.
The footage of the girl with diamond encrusted lips and eyelashes was quite interesting.
By the way, Drake was seen with Birdman at around 1:30-1:32.
As for lyrical quality, Drake didn’t have original material but I thought he did a beautiful job of singing the verse Wayne rapped during the 2008 VMA Awards.
I thought Birdman brought the heat with his verse. He represented Cash Money and Young Money quite well by his lyrics and flow. Just the way he acted lent quite a bit toward the success of this song I’d say.
Lil’ Wayne, as always, destroyed it. He seemed a bit more lax in this song than in some others.
This of course, did not make him any less fiery. I thought both his lyrics and delivery were top-notch.
As for the visual part of the video, I thought Drake was excellent. His style and grace are well balanced.
Birdman did a nice job of backing up his lyrics with gestures and so on. Lil’ Wayne though… It’s good as always but I thought it was a bit hard to enjoy his performance with the camera style they used. It was still a great show though.
All in all, I’d give Performance a 10, Props/Clothing/Makeup a 10, Video effects a 9.
