No Mercy No Fear was 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, and Lloyd Banks’ second mixtape as the G-Unit. According to Wikipedia, the No Mercy No Fear material was recorded shortly after 50 Cent signed a million dollar deal with Shady/Aftermath. Like 50 Cent Is The Future, this mixtape is a classic that mixes aggressive New York lyricism, hilarious remakes of popular songs, and raw energy that is impossible to duplicate. While 50 sounds hungry as ever on No Mercy No Fear (see “Clue Shit”), Lloyd Banks punchline ridden raps will blow you away, especially when you consider that Banks was 19/20.
KEY TRACKS: “Fat Bitch,” “Banks Victory,” “After My Chedda,” “Soldier,” “Wanksta”
HISTORY: On “Scarlet Skit,” 50 and Yayo talk about how other rappers are beginning to do their mixtape freestyles like G-Unit i.e. putting new rhymes and choruses over popular instrumentals instead of just rapping. G-Unit’s mixtape model is still the go-to method today.
