Pill Custom

Pill, an Atlanta representative, recently signed a contract with Asylum Records. Hopefully Pill didn’t sign a 360 deal. Regardless, it is great to see an artist capitalize off their Internet success. According to Pill, execs from Warner/Asylum reached out immediately after his “Trap Goin’ Ham” music video hit YouTube. But the real question is, will Pill be able to upload music videos to YouTube whenever he feels like it?

After stressing the importance of creative control while still unsigned, Pill says the Asylum deal will provide the freedom he was looking for. The option for either an EP or another mixtape remains available, as he stated his hope to capitalize off of and increase the buzz created by the two mixtapes from 2009. Pill’s debut album, which is currently untitled, has a tentative release date for the summer of 2010. (HipHopDX)

So what do we know about Asylum Records? For one, it is a company owned by Warner Music Group. Artists on the Asylum Records roster that are not named Pill include Gucci Mane, OJ Da Juiceman (aye!), Shawty Lo, Z-RO, Lil Boosie, Cam’ron, and others. For the full roster, check AsylumRecords.com. Like an intelligent industry observer, Pill recognized that Asylum could introduce his music to new markets across the globe.

“I wanted to get with somebody who has a stronghold on urban radio and marketing,” Pill explained. “They actually get it. You don’t see many major labels that are able to bring out a new artist, put them in the public eye and keep them in the public eye.” (HipHopDX)
