Beanie Sigel is doing whatever it takes to get Jay-Z to say his name. Will Jigga respond? Probably not. After all, Jay hasn’t battled since Nas beat him with “Ether.”
Jay-Z, a student of Robert Greene’s 48 Laws Of Power, might be applying Law #36: By acknowledging a petty problem you give it existence and credibility. The more attention you pay an enemy, the stronger you make him; and a small mistake is often made worse and more visible when you try to fix it. It is sometimes best to leave things alone. [...]
Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed” got a lot of buzz, mostly because the song was labeled an “Eminem diss.” Mariah Carey only fueled the accusation that “Obsessed” was indeed a diss song aimed at Eminem when she cast a Marshall Mathers look alike to play the role of an obsessive stalker in the song’s music video. Eminem absolutely annihalated Mariah with “Warning,” and all parties have been quiet since.
Later in the summer, Eminem was said to have the best verse on super-collabo record “Forever,” that also features Drake, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne. One of Eminem’s lines never made sense to us, but now we believe Eminem takes shots at Gucci Mane. Why Gucci Mane? Gucci appears on the “Obsessed (Remix)” which also has a music video. In the song, Gucci says the following:
Beanie Sigel uses “Average Cat” to vent his frustration about Jay-Z’s business practices. DJ Kay Slay, aka The Drama King, gets the exclusive on this radio rip of Beanie Sigel’s Jay-Z diss. Remember, beefs/battles are strictly lyrical. Hiptics would never promote a battle that we believed would eventually turn violent. However, we’re 100% pro lyrical sparring. Aggressive competition, anyone?
BET’s Hip Hop Awards biggest hit was the three-part cypher series featuring rappers like Eminem, Wale, Nicki Minaj, Black Thought of The Roots, Mos Def, Joe Budden, KRS-One, and others. While the net has been buzzing about Eminem’s performance (see for yourself), Joe Budden also verbally-annihilated DJ Premier’s instrumental during the pre-taped segment of the pre-taped BET Hip Hop Awards.
According to Joe Budden, his dislike for Jay-Z stems from the way Jay handles business. When Joe Budden’s “Pump It Up” became a summer hit in 2003, it seemed only right that Budden and Co. commissioned another rapper to become part of the “Pump It Up” remix.
Joe Budden’s first choice: Jay-Z
Budden says that he “chopped it up” with Jay-Z, but that Hov asked for an astronomical amount of money before he lay a fresh verse over Just Blaze’s instrumental. Budden took the diss in stride, but was furious when he heard Jay-Z jack his instrumental for an unofficial remix some two weeks later.
Is Joe Budden being petty, or does he have a legit reason for his “beef” with Jay-Z.
5o asserts that Jay-Z makes people feel comfortable enough to step on his toes (or run on stage while he performs) because he does not stifle other MC’s aggression.
I created a new category for content like Jody Breeze’s diss video to Young Jeezy called “Battles.” I like using “battle” instead of “beef” because beef implies that someone is going to get hurt. As many times as Jody Breeze insinuates that he will shoot Young Jeezy in the “Uptown” video, we should remember that it’s all entertainment! -Cfro
DJ Vlad was talking to Plies in July ‘08 about how Plies and Lil Wayne had concerts across the street from one another. Guess who sold more tickets? Plies. And this was in Wayne’s hometown! Check the video.
Lil Wayne dropped “A Milli” around the same time. The song features the following quote’s →
He’s a beast/He’s a dog/He’s a mothafuckin problem/Okay you’re a goon/But what’s a goon to a goblin? (verse 2)
Bitch I can turn a crack rock into a mountain (verse 3)
Plies’ first street single from his latest album Da REAList [Read Review] was “Heard of Me.” This came months after “A Milli.” Here’s a line that stuck in my head from Plies’ banger (the bass goes hard on this one!) →
To be the best rapper/You gotta tell lies/So I couldn’t be that/Cause I don’t fantasize/How you cookin dope?/You wearing suit n ties /This industry a joke…
Lil Wayne calls himself the best rapper alive. Are Plies and Lil Wayne exchanging subliminal disses or am I reading into this too much? Get at me in the Comment Section!
