It’s Been Thirteen Years Since Notorious B.I.G. Lost His Life
March 9th, 2010Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace lost his life this day, thirteen years ago. The rapper, also known as Biggie Smalls, lived to be only 24 years-old, yet he made the impact of a man who lived ten times as long. As far as the music goes, Big only released classic albums. His music is timeless and still resonates in 2010. Hip Hop misses you, Biggie Smalls.

What Does Hip Hop Politics Mean To You? [Opinions Needed!]
December 29th, 2009Hiptics stands for hip hop politics, but what does hip hop politics mean to you?
Hip Hop Politics is…
when rappers prefer chess over checkers i.e. rap strategy and positioning (for example: when 50 Cent buys Soulja Boy a tour bus)
the happening’s of the hip hop music business (for example: rappers make more money when music is free in the new music industry)
a critical understanding of hip hop music and culture (for example: the music analysis is deeper than rap)
when rappers make songs that are fueled by already-present societal problems (for example: rap is blamed for perpetuating violence, but when we live in a world where crazy people try to blow up planes on Christmas Day, is it fair to blame societal problems on rap lyrics?)
With all of this being said, what does hip hop politics mean to you? Would you like to see Hiptics.com get more political about issues in D.C. or do you like the current state of our content? All opinions are welcome! -Hiptics.com’s Chris Franco

Obie Trice Delivers Special Reserve LP, Earns XL Rating From XXL Magazine
December 15th, 2009Obie Trice’s Special Reserve will give you a better idea of what Eminem heard in Obie Trice when he signed the Detroit native to his Shady Records imprint in 2000. XXL Magazine recently gave Obie’s new LP of old material a XL rating.
Obie Trice’s new album, Special Reserve, his first official release since leaving Eminem’s Shady Records in 2008, isn’t actually new. Rather, it’s a collection of songs recorded between 1997 and 2000 by the Detroit MC and Canadian producer and DJ Premier protégé, MoSS. Although that makes most of Special Reserve more than a decade old, it’s aged remarkably well.
50 Cent Wonders If Fans Will Treat Him Like Michael Jackson
December 15th, 200950 Cent provided some interesting quotables for a recent Guardian piece. For example:
I’d like to be remembered as a great artist. As an artist you’re greater in your absence than in your presence. They liked Michael Jackson more the week after he passed away than the week before. Maybe they’ll like me more when I’m gone.
50 Cent’s echoes similar sentiments on his Forever King mixtape.
